John Lile

John Lile Law Enforcement and Local Public Health

John B. Lile had a long career with the Kentucky State Police where he held every rank from Trooper to Deputy Commissioner.  Graduating from the State Police Academy in March of 1975, he was assigned as a road trooper at the Pikeville Post working Martin/ Johnson Counties in Eastern Kentucky.  Moving to Frankfort, he served as an instructor at the State Police Academy teaching patrol tactics and in-service training.  Lile was appointed to head the department’s Public Affairs Branch where he served as the chief spokesman for the department and organized community safety programs.  While at Public Affairs, he served as the National Public Information and Education Coordinator for Operation C.A.R.E.

As a Captain, he commanded the Dry Ridge and Frankfort Post overseeing the daily operations.  After receiving a Promotion to Major, he supervised the Information Services, Drug Enforcement/ Special Investigations, Professional Standards and the 8 posts in the West Operations Branches.  Promoted to Lt. Colonel, he served as the Division Director for the Service, Administrative and the Operations Divisions.  Lile was promoted to Colonel and served as Deputy Commissioner for Governmental Affairs where he coordinated activities with the Kentucky General Assembly.  He retired from the department in 2002 with 28 years of service.  

Governor Paul D. Patton appointed Lile as Deputy Secretary of the Kentucky Justice Cabinet.  The Cabinet has management authority over the Department of State Police, Department of Corrections, Department for Juvenile Justice, Department for Criminal Justice Training, Kentucky Medical Examiner Program and the Kentucky Parole Board.  

Lile was appointed as the Director of the Kentucky Police Corps at the Department for Criminal Justice Training.  The mission of the program was to recruit, select and trained college educated police officers for law enforcement service in mid-size communities in Kentucky. 

For the last ten years he has been a part time contract employee at the Franklin County Health Department as the Preparedness Coordinator.  He was responsible for health emergency and bioterrorism planning for Franklin County, KY.  In addition to his duties at the department, he assisted in the staffing of county, regional and state Emergency Operations Centers during major declared disasters.

Lile has a under graduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Law Enforcement with a minor in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from Kentucky State University with an emphasis in Organizational Development and Personnel Management.

He resides in Frankfort, KY with his wife Willie.
